Baskin-Robbins was founded in 1945 by brothers-in-law Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins. It came into existence in Glendale, CA from the merging of their respective ice cream parlors.

Baskin-Robbins sells ice cream in nearly 50 countries and claims to be the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty stores, with 7, 300 locations, including nearly 2, 500 shops in the United States of America. Since going international in the 1970s, they have opened over 4, 800 locations internationally as of December 28, 2013. The company is currently headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts.

Baskin-Robbins menu contains ice cream, sundaes, soft serves, shakes, smoothies, frozen cappuccinos, and ice cream cakes. In 2008, Baskin-Robbins added healthier frozen treats called "BRight Choices" and removed all artificial trans fats from its ice cream.
